LYREBIRD CYCLES
Lyrebird Cycles bikes are made entirely by hand in Beechworth, High Country, Victoria. The bikes are a unique combination of Australian hardwoods and the highest strength carbon fibres available.
The concept came out of a simple question Lyrebird Cycles founder, Mark Kelly once asked himself while riding his old steel up Mt William in western Victoria: what is ride quality? That one question has since lead him on a decade-long journey, resulting today in a stunning, handcrafted offering.
The woods, the fibre lay-up, the tube shape and geometry, the fittings and finish are all selected to suit the rider. The two wood combinations he loves and uses are the ‘High Country’ mix, based on woods that grow in the area, and the ‘Vineyard’ mix, based on woods that grow around the vineyard in Beechworth where Mark is the winemaker. The ‘High Country’ mix is made up of mountain ash, myrtle beech, blackwood, rose gum and black wattle. While the ‘Vineyard Mix’, includes messmate, blackwood, red gum, black wattle and even a smoked eucalypt, in honour of the 2019 / 2020 bushfires which destroyed their vintage.
