The passion behind Penny Farthing Dan, as a brand, has always been the pursuit of perfection, with a realization perfection doesn’t exist so the path to improvement never ends. Dan is taking up the design where the engineers left off at 1890 and refining it further. Penny Farthings are an interest and a cycling culture in their own right, invented for high speed, long distance in comfort and centering around sports and adventure. Dan engineers serious bikes for real riders to use as originally intended.

The design is all about performance, feel and reliability. The complex tube formation to withstand the unique forces, a saddle that integrated with the frame and handlebars to fit with the riders movement. Unlike a modern bicycle the frame tubing has to hold itself rather than being braced and triangulated, this is where the magic lies.

Being such a unique design and unsupported by the modern industrial bike industry, Dan designs and handcrafts all components in his Melbourne workshop; from the tapered, blade, oval and varied thickness tubing throughout the frame, through to the integrated hammock saddle, the handlebars, hubs, spokes, even Dan’s own designed and in-house made rims with semi-pneumatic tyres and everything else in between. There is no compromise made to achieving the highest quality possible.
